[Precision Mold Design and Parts Processing Case] Punching of Fiber Materials

Design and manufacturing are possible with a clearance of 0.003mm! Processing of new materials such as thin foil and high-strength fibers is also possible.

A consultation was received from an automotive parts manufacturer, stating that they could not punch out fiber materials with molds from other companies, resulting in poor productivity, and they wanted to process with their own molds. In response, we proposed a minimal clearance of 0.003mm and improvements in mold structure and component accuracy. As a result, we were able to punch out the Vectran fiber material (t=0.05mm) due to the difference in clearance. [Precision Mold Design and Parts Processing Case Study] Improvement of Tungsten Carbide Punch Lifespan

The lifespan of punches has tripled thanks to milling processing technology for superhard materials! Here, we introduce a case study for a precision electronic components manufacturer.

When processing superhard materials with electrical discharge machining, microcracks due to thermal effects occur during the machining process. These cracks penetrate to a depth of about 20μm, so no matter how much you polish to create a smooth surface, they remain. These cracks can cause wear in punches that are subjected to strong loads. In contrast, milling does not produce any microcracks at all.
